About Me

ramenaru
So, who am I?

Hello, I'm ramenaru. You can call me ramen for short—that's what my friends call me, too. The story behind the name is simple: I love ramen food, and I wanted a cool pseudonym. That's how "ramen" came to be my name online as a tech enthusiast.

You can see a simplified version of what I'm working on right now on the homepage!

Setup & Workflow

As a developer, I'm constantly researching and tweaking my environment to find the tools that best suit my taste. I'm always chasing that perfect balance of a blazingly fast, efficient, and multi-tasking-friendly setup.

My daily driver is Arch Linux. My journey started in high school when my old laptop forced me to find a more productive OS. I began with MX Linux and evolved through Mint, Linux Lite, and Fedora.

In my high school final year, my best friend (and senior at the time), posei, convinced me to try Arch. I'd only known it from memes about being impossibly hard, but I took the plunge. My first attempt with the manual guide failed, so I turned to Reddit and the Arch forums for a simpler method. My first successful installation took about 8 hours! These days, I use the archinstall script for a quicker setup—having known the fundamentals from that initial manual install.

For coding, my main editor is Neovim. I use it for most of my research projects, especially for cybersecurity scripting (like writing XSS scripts for bug bounties).

I do switch to VSCodium (a great open-source alternative to VS Code) for mobile development with Flutter, as it's just more convenient for that workflow. It's also one of the easier packages to install on Linux. For everything else, Neovim is my home.

I'm even experimenting with new keyboard layouts to boost my efficiency! I found Dvorak a bit too challenging, so I'm currently learning Colemak, though I'm not using it regularly yet—maybe by next year!

I keep all my configurations updated on my GitHub. Like most people, I call it my dotfiles. You can check them out if you're curious about my setup!

My Hobbies

My love for video games is insane. It all started with my first game at 7 years old playing games on a website called games.co.id, and it's been a huge part of my life ever since. I have so many core memories: modding GTA San Andreas in internet cafes, grinding League of Legends throughout junior high, and discovering amazing RPGs like Skyrim and Fallout for the first time.

My taste in genres is all over the place—in a good way! I've jumped from FPS games like CS, to RTS classics like Stronghold Crusader, and now I'm deeply into the Elden Ring series. I was actually into soulslikes way back in high school, playing Dark Souls for that edgy vibe (you know how it is).

Gaming has had a massive impact on me. Beyond the pure joy, it's taught me so much—I've learned about philosophy through different stories and even picked up programming basics from modding. Right now, I'm tinkering with a little C++ and C# to mod games and play with Windows API libraries, starting with things like Stardew Valley.

Besides gaming, I'm a bookworm 'wannabe'. I love diving into popular-yet-niche worlds, like searching for all the hidden lore in Harry Potter and LOTR. How was the Sindarin language created? What are the other wizarding schools? I love digging into details like that.

Through reading, I've also developed a deep love for history. I'm very interested in historical events, poems, plays by historical figures, and biographies. My favorites range from classics by Dostoevsky to heavily fictionalized historical event play like Julius Caesar by Shakespeare, and I absolutely love Eiji Yoshikawa's Musashi.

This passion extends to manga and anime, especially historical series like Kingdom and Vagabond (though I also love masterpieces like Death Note). Finally, I'm fascinated by weird, psychological horror and speculative fiction, like The King in Yellow or All Tomorrows. That kind of stuff plays with your mind—it's not just normal scary, but something that makes you think. I love that feeling, even if it creeps me out a little.

What This Website Used To Be

This site is my home on the web. Think of it as a simplified portfolio mixed with a living notebook of what I'm into.

Part of that is writing. My full-on blog (which I built with Hugo) is over at Blogs page, but you'll find thoughts and hobby posts here too.

I love building websites that feel structured but not stiff—friendly, with a bit of inner-circle slang, techy nods, or just plain geeky stuff. If you're into the same things, that vibe should make this place feel a bit more like home.
